John Gellel Becomes President of the Australian Security Industry Association Limited (ASIAL)

Sydney, Australia – Gellel recently assumed the role which was delayed due to COVID. The election, conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission, drew double the voter turn-out typically seen in ASIAL elections and featured the highest number of candidates for all positions, reflecting the strong health and standing of the Association. Kastle Systems is proud to have Gellel serving on the ASIAL which is the recognised peak national body for security professionals in Australia. With over 20 years’ experience in electronic security, John has extensive knowledge in delivering integrated security solutions across a range of corporate, government, and private industries, and regularly spends time with organizations to understand market trends and challenges. He is the former ASIAL Vice President and serves on the Board of Directors.

Gellel is joined by five of his colleagues from the previous Board including Rachaell Saunders who has been elected as the new Vice-President. The new Board includes Rachaell Saunders (Vice-President), Kevin McDonald (former President), Brian Foster, Fred Khoury, Mike Smith, Tamara Bayly and Mark Guiney. Gellel said, “The (election) numbers confirm that members clearly endorse the strategic vision laid out by the Board over past years. What our members want is leadership and unity and a clear vision that delivers better results and a solid future for our industry.”

Gellel acknowledged outgoing President Kevin McDonald for his contribution to the association and the industry as a whole. He also thanked outgoing Director Suzette Po Williams for her commitment to the Association and looks forward to her continued involvement.

The focus is to continue with the Board’s strategic plan, commented Gellel. “We can now proceed to deliver on the vision that members have told us they want. This has already started, the next major event will be the Security 2021 Exhibition and Conference at which the Horizon 2025 Report will be launched, in which we take an analytical look at how security companies can equip and prepare themselves to meet the challenges of the next few years. We will continue to look at new strategies as well, which deliver deeper member engagement, strengthen our connection with key stakeholders and equip new entrants into the industry for a long career.”

Looking ahead, Gellel is aware that there are challenges as well as exciting opportunities for the industry and he looks forward to the Association working together to bring about positive change.
